Rediscover the cult classic of the 19th century with Nephrolepis exaltata "Vitale". A contemporary compact, curly-leafed cultivar of the Victorian favourite Boston Fern, this vintage vixen of a fern has been brought bang up to date with its compact curly leaves, gracing rooms with a serene style.
Spin me around! Rotate your Vitale fern every few weeks so that all sides of the plant receive equal amounts of light.
Time for a trim! Cutaway older, yellowing or dried fronds from around the sides at the base of the plant. This will encourage vigorous new growth. Do not chop the top.
Happy when hot and humid! This fern prefers a wet, warm and bright environment to thrive, such as the bathroom or kitchen.
Nephrolepis are reasonably comfortable in a wide range of light conditions, anywhere from bright, indirect sunlight to light shade.
Keep the soil moist at all times. Water when the surface becomes slightly dry. Do not overwater and use lukewarm, soft water where possible.
Nephrolepis exaltata Vitale prefers average household temperatures: between 16-24°C, but not less than 12°C. Avoid cold draughts.
Prefers higher humidity and doesn't do well in dry air. Do not place near radiators, etc. Group with other plants in your kitchen or bathroom to help increase humidity levels.
Liquid fertiliser can be applied occasionally during the growing season.
